These are fact's about the Wolfpak, how we make our 3D Stills and the many questions most e-mails ask. CAN I USE THE PICTURES AS MY WINDOWS WALLPAPER ETC? Simple, as lon as you don't sell the images or try to make money out of them in anyway then you can do what you like with them. Showing the images on your PC at work is fine, using them to sell anything isn't! I.e. using the pictures as a wallpaper at work/home/school etc is fine. BUT: Selling prints of our images, CD-ROM's full of our pictures/meshes/www site or using the wolfpak's work to promote your companyor products etc, is BAD! In in doubt then mail us and tell us what you want to use the images etc for. We all ways get back to you. WHAT PROGRAMS DO YOU USE TO MAKE YOUR PICTURES? I primarily use 3D Studio R4 for DOS and 3D Studio MAX 1.2 for NT4 from Kinetix. These are VERY expensive programmes, so unless you have access to a computer with this program, I am afraid that we can't give away some of our most complex meshes. Smaller meshes loadable by most software are now available on the meshes download page (see links on the main menu) . SFX are added by many different routines called Ipas'es in 3D Studio and Plug-ins in 3D Studio Max. These handle most of the effects. I also use Fractal Paint R4 with a Wacom Art Pad 2 for all my photo retouching ,JPEG conversions and making texture mapps. WHAT TYPE OF HARDWARE DO YOU USE? Most of the pictures are rendered on a generic Pentium 133, with 32 megs of ram running Windows 95/NT 4. But I will be upgrading soon. The rest of the Wolfpak use on average a P200 with 128 meg of RAM. DO YOU MAKE THE ACTUAL MODELS? Yep, Only the Star Wars meshes are not directly made by the Wolfpak (Made by Harry Chang and the SWMA). Eric Peterson has made the 1701-A/B/C/D, Reliant, Grissom, Peregrin, Mickinley Station, D-7 and the Excelsior. Mateen Greenway made the Star Fury mesh, and I re-mapped and SFX'ed the lot and made the Runabout and Galor and Kelvin and Vor'Cha and re-modelled several of the above into the Monarch, Eagle, Falcon, Hood, Saratoga and the Hermes. Martin Hajek made the Bird of Prey, Vor'Cha and Defiant and the Voyager on the index.html Jeorge Gelach made the Warrior, Akuzi, Voyager, Defiant, Jemhadar and Borg and 1701 A/C on the meshes downloads page. We are always making new meshes so the best way to find out who made what mesh is to read the artist credits under each thumbnail in the image galleries. CAN I HAVE A COPY OF ONE OF YOUR MESHES? Most of our smaller net transferable meshes are now on the meshes download page, more will be added when we have room. These meshes are now the actual 3D Studio R4 we actual use, the reason we don't post some of the newest meshes is they are far to big to be posted and download. The Defaint for instance is over 100 megs including its mapps and that is now about our average project size for just one ship. We don't sell these meshes so please don't ask, if you have the hardware and a legal version of 3D Studio and are interested in joining the Wolfpak show us what you have done and if it meets agreement with the rest of the group you should be able to join our E-mail group and gain access to some of the larger meshes. The only requirement is that YOU have built a SF mesh all by yourself! CAN YOU MAKE A 3D MESH OF ONE OF MY SHIP DESIGNS This is a really common request and the Wolfpak can make 3D meshes but our schedules are extremelly busy. At the time of writing this FAQ file it would be almost impossible for any of us to have time to make a 3D mesh for anyone else. The 3D ship meshes we make take upto 6 months to build in some cases. The best advice we can give on this subject is to learn a 3D package and build the meshes yourself! That way you retain creative control over its design and own the rights to the work! You can also use many of our 3D Trek meshes as a starting block for your own designs. ARE THESE SCENES FROM ANIMATIONS? Most are Still Shots, but some are animations that I render in UK TV res' which is close to 800x600 (just under in fact, works at 25 frames per second) .Metaphasic 1701-B is a shot straight from the animation as well as many others by me (Matt Allen). COULD YOU POST YOUR ANIMATIONS? Animations will start to be posted soon in a variety of formats. HOW LONG DOES EACH PICTURE TAKE TO MAKE? This depends on how complex the 3D Still is. I use many methods of FX and lighting for each still and the more models and complexity then the longer the shot will take. For example the X-wing mesh takes only about a minute to render but took over 2 days to add extra detail to the mapping. Most of the trek meshes render in under 1 or 2 minutes. But add in SFX and the fact that I often have to render a still about 100 times to get it all right the average still takes about 1 day to complete. As many are made as animations this process can be much longer. CAN YOU NOTIFY ME WHEN YOU UPDATE YOUR PICTURES? A Mailing list run by members of the wolfpak is currently under discussion. HOW DO YOU MAKE THESE PICTURES? Please see the "How do we do that" page. This is a description of how we created the 3D Stills in 3D Studio R4 for DOS. A Max version and more tutorials will be posted soon. CAN I ADD A LINK TO MY SITE FOR WOLF 359? Please see the "Add a Link to WOLF 359" page. CAN I USE YOUR PICTURES ON MY SITE? Please do, but we would like you to credit us with a link and put the original text up with the picture. That way the Artists who made the picture will get the credit they deserve and you get some nice free art for your site. If you are not sure how to give us a link then mail me and I can let you know. Do not cut off the white information bars on the new stills that give the copyright information and address for WOLF 359. Over 200 sites have already used 3D Stills by the wolfpak and every one of them asked first, sites that ask first and give us a link or credit tend to get access to new pictures before anyone else!
Did you know that Wolfpak should be spelt Wolfpack?
Yes! Its all due a certain Texan dubbing the group the wolfpack and the name stuck, when trying to get
the name wolfpack359 on AOL I run out of letters and could only fit in wolfpak359, the miss-spelling has
stuck ever since. So please stop mailing me and telling me I've mis-spelt it!
WHO'S IN THE WOLFPAK?
