WOLF 359 downloads really slowly, how can I speed it up?

Right first of all, if you have a really slow Modem or NET connection. Turn off the Graphics, this can be done on most browser software by turning off the auto load images button. Most of the images on Wolf have text explainations of what they are so you can still naviagte with images turned off! Or buy a faster modem, use better browser software e.g. Netscape Navigator or use the Net off-peak as in late evenings or early AM. This should all help
Off peak in the UK tends to be between 4AM and 9AM, saturdays and sundays are wonderful for this and you'll find the World wide wait turns into the world wide web again!

Please note that we have spent a lot of time compressing all the graphics here really hard so that the whole site is under 1 megabyte. All the original files put together would have been around the 50-60 meg mark!

How do I navigate through WOLF 359?

OK, if you need to read this you're probably new to the WWW. Welcome :)
All you have to do is left mouse click on the black bars to move to the page mentioned on the bar. Or left mouse click on the Blue underlined text links which tend to be under the black bars or at the bottom of the page.
On each page there are Black Bars and Blue text links to take you back or forward to related pages/topics. You can also use your Back and Forward buttons on your browser software (the left and right arrows).

Jpeg's make my browser crash!

This tends to happen with the old version of Mosaic that came with CIS WINCIM 1.4. Or Older AOL software seems to suffer the same problem. If you use CIS then download WINCIM 2.01 with its new version of Mosaic. Or download WinCIM 2.01 and Netscape Navigator 2.01. Same with AOL go for V3.1. If you can't do this then turn of auto-load images and download the JPEGs directly to your Hard disk and view them off-line.

This problem should not effect many people anymore as most of us are now using Netscape version 2+, and AOL's WIN 95 version is now available and the new inbuilt browser is really good.

How do I get the 3D Stills as my Windows 3.11 or 95 background?

Simple you'll need a package that can turn a JPEG into a BMP. Its best not to change the res' size of the image as it'll become blocky if you blow it up to much. Programmes that do this are Adobe Photoshop and the excellent Paint Shop Pro can be used to convert the JPEG's to BMP files.
Once you have changed the 3D Still to a BMP then place it in your windows system directory then load the control panel menu (Normally lives in the MAIN group), then hit the desktop Icon and change the Wallpaper setting to the name of the new BMP file you have created e.g. 3DSTILL1.BMP. It's best to center the Icon and not tile it (But that's upto you).

NOTE: On many of the new browsers (Netscape 3+ and I.E. 4+) pressing the right mouse button over an image will allow you an option of turing that image into a wallpaper for windows. Windows 95 and NT4 supports this and tracking down and setting up netscape is made well worth the effort for just this feature!

I don't see any Blue border around the pictures on WOLF 359 are they links?

Yes, we turned of the border option to make the design of the page look more appealing. If your'e not sure what's a Link and what's not, use the Blue text links or hold down you right mouse button over a picture and see if you get any Link information about it.

How do I download to my Hard disk the JPEG's

Click or hold down your right mouse button (depends on what browser you are using) and choose the save to disk option. Place the jpeg in a directory you have for downloading files from the internet e.g. C:\CSERVE\DOWNLOAD.

AOL 2.01 users: UPGRADE to the win 95 version, AOL's older browsers tend not to let you donwload and save graphics from WWW sites there is nothing we can do about this bar asking you to upgrade your AOL software or download and set-up netscape or I.E. from AOL's internet clubs and use that as your WWW browser.

The 3D Stills I'm viewing on-line seem very blocky but are fine off-line why?
OR All the images seem very blocky.

This is probably because your viewer can only handle 256 colors or 64K when viewing images on-line. But your off-line Image programme can handle 64K to 16 million 24bit truecolour viewing.
If your Windows settings only allow you to view 256-64K clours it may be best to check if your Video card can handle higher colors resolutions. If it can't it may be time to upgrade . Many browsers seem only to be able to handle low palettes for each image. Netscape Navigator works at 16 million 24 bit truecolour mode if your windows settings are the same. Please note that most new PC's or Mac's made in the last few years should be able to handle 24-bit res in windows. So if you have a new PC and the Graphics seem very blocky then check your manual on how to set your Video card up properly. A common problem here is people running Windows at 800x600 or higher, most 1 meg graphics cards can only do 24-Bit at 640x480. Even at 64K 16 bit res, some graphics won't appear as good as they should.

AOL Users, remeber to make sure your AOL browser is not set to compressed graphics under its control panal! This will make all the GFX appear badly and store them to the cache this way to!
